ALZHEIMER SOCIETY OF ALBERTA AND NWT Help the Alzheimer Society by hosting an Alzheimer Coffee Break in your office, at home, at your community centre, in a local mall, or anywhere you can set up a stand for the day. The annual nationwide Alzheimer Coffee Break will be launched on Thursday, September 16 but Coffee Breaks can be held throughout the months of September and October. Contact Doris Uebel at 403-329-3766 or email ST JOHN AMBULANCE St. John Ambulance is recruiting Volunteer First Aid Responders go out to events in the community and provide volunteer first aid coverage. St. John Ambulance is on site in case anyone gets injured or needs medical attention. First Aid Responder volunteer training will be held on the second Monday of the month from 7 – 9 p.m. The first meeting will be held on Monday, September 14. All volunteers must be at least 16 years of age, and be willing to commit at least 5 hours a month. They must have current Standard First Aid, prior to joining the First Aid Responder program. All First Aid Responder Members must take the Medical First Responder course provided by St. John Ambulance, at no cost. A Police Records Check is mandatory prior to joining. A vehicle is required for certain events, and may be provided by St. John Ambulance. To find out how you can become a first Aid Responder contact Nicole Bosh at 403-327-2847 Ext: 6102 or email nicole.bosh@stjohn.ab.ca HELEN SCHULER NATURE CENTRE The Oldman Watershed Council and Helen Schuler Nature Centre are hosting the Great Canadian Shoreline Clean Up in Lethbridge on Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 2:00 to 3:00pm. Clean Up Volunteers will be picking up trash along the Oldman River; keeping the river clean for the animals that depend on it and keep our city looking beautiful. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre at 2:00pm. All supplies, prizes and cold refreshments will be provided. THE GALT MUSEUM & ARCHIVES The Galt Museum & Archives is in need of many Special Event Volunteers to help us celebrate our building’s centennial on Sunday Sept 26th. Actors, supervisors for kids’ activities, face painters, volunteers to serve cake and refreshments, and more! LETHBRIDGE YOUTH JUSTICE COMMITTEE Lethbridge Youth Justice Committee is looking for Volunteer Panel Members to sit on a panel made up of other volunteers who will listen to young offenders, negotiate, suggest retribution, mentor the youth, and perform office work as required. Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age, be compassionate and understanding individuals who enjoy working with youth. A Police Records Check and Child Welfare Check are required. If you enjoy the hospital atmosphere, greeting people, and walking this is the ideal volunteer opportunity. Shift times needed are: 1:00-3:00 pm Mon, Tue, Thu & Wed 6:30 -11:00 am. CANADIAN BLOOD SERVICES Join the Friends of Canadian Blood Services group by being a dedicated volunteer with the Lethbridge Clinic. As a Customer Care Volunteer, you will enhance the donor experience and provide customer service in the Donor Refreshment area of the Clinic. A variety of shifts are available, ranging from 2 to 4 hours on Tuesday through Saturday. As a Donor Ambassador or Volunteer Speaker or What's Your Type Volunteer, you will be involved in community outreach activities that promote Canadian Blood Services and inform people about the necessary need for blood donors. Individuals, businesses and organizations are welcome to inquire about these opportunities. Consider volunteering with Canadian Blood Services as part of an initiative to give back to your community and even challenge other individuals, businesses and organizations to do the same.
